Every time President Barack Obama has had to make a decision on energy policy, he has ended up making the wrong one, his potential successor, Mitt Romney, charged in an exclusive Newsmax.TV interview.
And the former Massachusetts governor said he would reverse all of them if he is successful in gaining the Republican nomination and winning November’s general election.
Romney said the public knows that Obama’s energy policy has been a disaster.
“This is the reason people are so angry with President Obama,” he said. “Obama has made all the wrong decisions with regard to energy over the last three years.”
Romney listed four examples of Obama’s bad decisions on the subject:
• The moratorium on deep-sea drilling following the 2010 Deepwater Horizon disaster in the Gulf of Mexico;
• Delays in issuing permits to mine coal on public lands;
• Instructing the Environmental Protection Agency to make it harder to access natural gas deposits through hydraulic fracturing;
• Denying permission for the Keystone XL pipeline which would have brought oil from Canada to Texas.
“In all these cases he’s made it harder for America to get our own energy,” said Romney, who was speaking hours after victories in the Republican presidential primaries in Arizona and Michigan.
“As a result of that, he’s going to make it more likely that we are subject to the price spike of the oil cartel.”
Romney said Obama has “simply not had a policy that gets America energy-secure.”
“If I’m president, I’m going to reverse those policies. We’re going to get our oil. We’re going to get our gas. We’re going to get our coal.
“Of course, we’ll also get our renewable [energy] but we’re going to also have that Keystone pipeline come in from Canada.”
