David Freddoso to GOP: Don't Budge on Unemployment

By    |   Monday, 06 Jan 2014 05:27 PM

Republican lawmakers should not cave in to Democrats on the extension of unemployment benefits, says David Freddoso, editor of the Conservative Intelligence Briefing and a Washington Examiner columnist.

"When the benefits period is shortened, people tend to take what's available," Freddoso told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

When a job seeker on unemployment gets an offer, he is "more likely to say, eh, I bet I can do better than this; this isn't as good a job as I had in 2007, this job doesn't pay as much, it's not quite in line with my skill set as much," Freddoso said Monday.

He pointed to North Carolina, which cut off extended benefits last July.

Officials found the number of employed people jumped by 39,000 between July 1 and Nov. 30, after being stagnant for the entire first half of the year.
