Dan Gainor: Syrian Killings Ignored as Russian Anti-Gay Bias Makes News

Friday, 07 Feb 2014 08:06 PM

The media is obsessed with covering Russia's anti-gay biases while practically ignoring the ongoing slaughter of Christians across the Arab world, says Dan Gainor, vice president of Business and Culture for Media Research Center.

"You can make any argument, and I won't disagree, that Russian laws are not ideal and they wouldn't pass muster in the United States," Gainor told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

Story continues below video.

"But … in Syria, we've had more than 130,000 people killed. Something like 3 million people had to leave their country. Priests, bishops, nuns are being targeted. Churches are being set on fire and destroyed."

And yet those atrocities are virtually uncovered by the media, Gainor argues.

"The networks, they don't care about this because they care about gays," he said. "If you work for NBC, that's the group you care about."
