Reporter Arkush: Dolphins' Incognito Finished in NFL

Monday, 04 November 2013 04:31 PM

Miami Dolphins lineman Richie Incognito — suspended for allegedly bullying teammate Jonathan Martin — is finished as a National Football League player, says Hub Arkush, a veteran sideline reporter for Westwood One.

"This is not symptomatic of normal life in the NFL. There is hazing. It's rooky hazing, for the most part. Sometimes it goes a little further than you would like, but I've never heard a story quite like this one," Arkush told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"I can't imagine Richie Incognito coming back to the Dolphins. I can't imagine another team putting him in their locker room at this point because . . . we've only seen the tip of the iceberg," he said Monday.

ESPN reports that Incognito used explicit language and racial slurs in voicemails to Martin, and in one, even threatened to kill him.

Martin walked out on the team and is reportedly getting counseling.

"When you talk about bullying, it suggests at least to me intimidation and infliction of great mental anguish by intimidation and just by being cruel. This goes way beyond that . . . this is threatening, it is definitely racial in nature," Arkush said.

"It's almost sociopathic, and it's scary and it's just wrong . . . Basically, [Incognito] is not a good guy, and yet this goes so far beyond being not a good guy that you just wonder what goes on in the heads of people like this."

Dolphins officials have confirmed they suspended Incognito for conduct detrimental to the team.

On Sunday, Incognito wrote on Twitter that he wanted his name cleared, although he did not go into detail about his communications with Martin.
