Pastor on Navy Shooting: You Can't Legislate Crazy

By    |   Thursday, 19 September 2013 07:07 PM EDT

The shooter who opened fire at the Washington, D.C., Navy Yard is not alone. There are "a lot of people like that just walking around," minister Kenn Blanchard said Thursday.

The self-described "pastor to the gun people" told "The Steve Malzberg Show" that shooter Aaron Alexis was among the countless numbers of "time bombs waiting to go off."

"Unfortunately, there's a lot of people like that just walking around . . . and they've become that way because they're isolated, they're lost in the crowd," he said.

The nation's capital – with "at least 50 law enforcement divisions" and a small army of security still can’t stop gun violence.

"We still hurt other people and you can't legislate crazy," he said.

The African-American preacher said the nation will have to "transcend color" as it tries to deal with the "black-on-black crime problem."

“Education got us off the plantation. Ignorance is what kills us,” he said. “We have a black-on-black crime problem because of a self-hate…. There's no gun violence. It's just violence and the gun is used… Every politician has to comment on it, has to make a thing but the problem always has been personal. It's a family thing.”
