Newsbusters' Sheppard: MSNBC Hurtling Toward 'Irrelevancy'

Friday, 27 December 2013 07:05 PM EST

MSNBC is moving "further and further towards irrelevancy" as it steps up attacks on conservatives, according to Noel Sheppard, associate editor of the media watchdog Newsbusters.

Sheppard told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV he was appalled that MSNBC’s Joy Reid slammed former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin for having a Christmas tree, saying it's against the "Christmas purity" she extolls.

"It really, it boggles the mind. The hatred that the liberal media has for and is willing to display towards … Palin absolutely knows no bounds," Sheppard said.

Story continues below video.

"What [MSNBC President Phil] Griffin has been doing is he's been taking these lesser-known folks who are exclusively opinionators and who are conservative-haters and putting them into prominent positions.

"MSNBC just moves further and further to the left and further and further towards irrelevancy. I guess Griffin wants to become totally irrelevant."

Sheppard said he is surprised that legitimate journalists such as Andrea Mitchell and Chuck Todd "want to be associated with this....

"And why does Joe Scarborough want to be associated? Now, of course, he positions himself as the lone conservative or right-of-center voice and it's nice that that exists, but do you really want to be associated with this vile network? My answer is no."
