Frank Gaffney: Hillary's State Dept. Record Full of 'Bad Choices'

Hillary Clinton's memoir "Hard Choices'' should be retitled "Bad Choices'' to reflect the former secretary of state's poor service record, says Frank Gaffney, founder and president of the Center for Security Policy.

"'Hard Choices' . . . is really not completely accurate,'' Gaffney told "The Steve Malzberg Show'' on Newsmax TV.

"It really should be thought of [as] 'Bad Choices,' which Hillary made consistently," he said Wednesday.

"On Benghazi, the bad choices began with the policy, that she was part of formulating and executing, of embracing jihadists and helping them come to power in Libya in the first place.''

Gaffney said it was this policy that Clinton's friend Ambassador Christopher Stevens helped carry out and ultimately paid for with his life, along with three other Americans, on Sept. 11, 2012.

As for the lack of security that led to those deaths, that is Clinton's cross to bear alone, Gaffney says.

"I'm hoping the [House] select committee, when it does its investigation, will establish this to be the case,'' Gaffney said.

"It wasn't just subordinates who consistently refused successive requests for more security in this dangerous hell hole of Benghazi.

"It was pursuant to her direction that we don't want to make it look as though there is any problem in Benghazi. Everything is coming up roses. It's going to be normalized, hence we will not beef up security.''

Gaffney was not impressed with Chuck Hagel's testimony before the House Armed Services Committee, in which the secretary of defense defended the swap of five terrorists for Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, calling it an "extraordinary situation.''

"His judgment, particularly on matters of serious national security policy, has been deeply deficient. I think this is just one more example of it,'' Gaffney said.

"This is a guy who thought we should rid the world of nuclear weapons, as President [Barack] Obama does, but is supposed to know better. This is a guy who I believe has had delusions about our ability to do business with the Russians and the Chinese and so on.

"In this case, it just happens that his judgment about the significance of these guys and their ability to cause us material harm is unbelievable and I think deeply defective.''

The bottom line on the controversial trade, Gaffney says, is that it put all Americans at the mercy of global jihadists.

"You're going to see these guys being emboldened by the release of five of their top commanders, their planners, their leaders,'' Gaffney said.

"What the president has done is incentivize these guys to make a redoubled effort all over the world, including here in the United States, through violence, to try to achieve what they believe is Allah's will.''
