Rep. DeSantis: Putin Offer Is Ploy for Credibility

By    |   Monday, 09 September 2013 05:06 PM EDT

Russian President Vladimir Putin's proposal for Syria to put its chemical weapons under international control is likely a play to gain credibility on the world stage at America's expense, says Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla.

"I think Putin is making a play, I think he senses weakness in the administration," DeSantis said Monday on Fox News Channel's "Your World." "So I obviously view Putin as somebody who's trying to confront the United States and who's trying to challenge us."

"I might add, the chemical weapons Putin said only a couple of days ago the Syrians didn't have," host Neil Cavuto said.

Retired Gen. Tom McInerney told Cavuto that the U.S. military does not see action against Syria as a win.

"We know after two land wars in the Middle East that we can take these governments down within a matter of weeks," McInerney said. "What we don't know is how to nation-build. We now know they do not want our Jeffersonian democracy. … As soon as we leave, they crush the girls' school, throw a burqa over their head, and live the way they've lived for 1,400 years."
