Sen. Marsha Blackburn to Newsmax TV: Trump Listens to 'Strong Women'

(Newsmax TV's "Spicer & Co.")

Political opportunists attacking President Donald Trump for saying "nasty" things about Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., are sorely mistaken and doing a disservice to women, according to Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., on Newsmax TV.

"He does not have a problem with strong women, as a matter of fact, he appreciates getting advice from strong women," Blackburn told Thursday's "Spicer & Co." "There are many times he'll call and say, 'tell me what you're hearing; tell me what people are saying.'

"He listens; he gets a lot of input."

Host Sean Spicer was pointing to Democrat opponent Joe Biden's attack on the president for attacking strong women, potentially out of fear.

"I don't know who's talking to Joe in the basement there," Blackburn shot back. "I know they want to keep him locked in the basement, but this is one of those areas where I can say, 'let me just tell you.'

"I've known Donald Trump for a long time. He appreciates he advice of strong women, and he likes to gather a lot of input from a diverse group of people with a wide range of experience. He takes all that in and then he makes a decision."

Blackburn, who spoke at Trump's 2016 Republican National Convention, is releasing a new book Sept. 1: "The Mind of a Conservative Woman: Seeking the Best for Family and Country."

Spicer noted the number of conservative women serving in his administration and Blackburn made a special mention of White House senior counselor Kellyanne Conway, who was the first female campaign manager in history to win a presidential election in 2016.
