Rep. Walter Jones: Declassify Redacted 28 Pages of 9/11 Report

By    |   Friday, 09 January 2015 11:18 AM EST

It's time to declassify the 28 redacted pages of the Joint Inquiry into Intelligence Activities Before and After the Terrorist Attacks of September 2001, which purportedly contain evidence that Saudi Arabia helped finance the 9/11 attacks, Rep. Walter Jones said Friday on Newsmax TV's "America’s Forum."

His comments came two days after he and Rep. Stephen Lynch, a Massachusetts Democrat, announced a resolution calling for the declassification of the pages by President Barack Obama.

“It was the [George W.] Bush administration that decided that 28 pages out of the report, before the report could be made public, needed to be classified,” Jones said. “I along with Steve Lynch, [Kentucky Rep.] Thomas Massie and several other members of the House, we’ve read the 28 pages, and I would say there’s nothing, absolutely nothing about national security in those 28 pages.”

Citing national security concerns, both the Bush and Obama administrations have kept the information classified.

Jones noted that former Florida Sen. Bob Graham, a Democrat who wrote the report along with Republican Sen. Richard Shelby, has also called for the pages to be declassified.

“It is about relationships, and as Bob Graham said the other day himself, and this has been printed, that he knows that the Saudis helped finance the 9/11 attack, and all we’re saying is that the American people, and especially the 9/11 families who are still in pain, should have a right to see the information and make their own judgment based on the information” Jones said.

Jones is not calling for an end to diplomatic relations with the Saudis, but said U.S. foreign policy should be such that Saudi Arabia and other Mideast countries need to at least partner with the U.S. when it comes to wars.

“America is sending their troops to get killed and have their legs blown off,” he said. “Let these Middle East countries send their military into those countries.

“If there’s one American soldier on the ground in Iraq, there should be one Saudi soldier on the ground in Iraq. This America trying to police the world is not the way we need to go in foreign policy.”
