Victoria Jackson: Liberal News Blogs Twisted Newsmax Interview

Monday, 23 February 2015 03:42 PM

Former "Saturday Night Live" star Victoria Jackson has come out swinging at two liberal news blogs — charging they edited her exclusive interview with Newsmax TV's Steve Malzberg to make her sound like a raving right-wing, anti-gay nut.

On Friday, Jackson told Malzberg that President Barack Obama is an Islamic jihadist who "hates America" and has no ties to Christian ideals, adding: "He's not even American. His formative years were in Indonesia and he was a Muslim. It says it on his school records."

Over the weekend, other news organizations picked up the Newsmax interview, but Jackson told Malzberg on Monday that Right Wing Watch and Salon.com didn't treat her fairly.

"They took our interview and edited it and left out you asking me about Obama being a Christian. They said that I said Obama is an Islamist because of his stand on gay marriage. That doesn't even make sense," Jackson told Malzberg on Monday.

"Here's the evidence that he is an Islamist. His top adviser is Valerie Jarrett and she's an Iranian born Muslim. There's people in his cabinet who are connected to the Muslim brotherhood. He will not say the words 'Islamic terrorism' together. He released terrorists from Gitmo that our sons and daughters died to capture.

"He's obviously helping the enemy to release people our sons died to capture. He says the most beautiful sound he's ever heard is the Muslim call to prayer. He says that his father and brothers are Muslims back three generations."

Jackson also said Obama vows in his memoir, "The Audacity of Hope", published by Crown, that "should the political wind shift to an ugly direction, I stand with the Arab and Pakistani Americans."

So roiled by the twisting of her words, Jackson used her comedic skills to write a special song to commemorate it.

"Right Wing Watch tells lies about me, Salon Magazine tells lies about me, Steve Malzberg tells the truth about me, so I think I'll stick with Newsmax," she sang, accompanying herself on the ukulele.

Jackson is also trying to clear up the mystery surrounding her brusque treatment during the recent "Saturday Night Live" 40th anniversary special, which featured most of the show's cast since 1975.

When Jackson arrived for the show, she was placed in the "overflow room" away from the rest of the cast.

She had originally told NBC brass she was going to be late because of her flight and would be unable to walk the red carpet, but later told them she'd be on time. She showed Malzberg an email to NBC which acknowledged that.

So why was the conservative comedian hidden away from everybody else?

"It was either a bracelet mistake or maybe somebody in the audience who's powerful told Lorne [Michaels, the show's producer] I won't be in there if she's in there. I can't think of anything else," Jackson said.

Jackson said she has not yet received an explanation from the network, but she doesn't believe Michaels himself was behind the snub.

"No, I don't think so. He likes me. He hired me and he gave me a great job. He's always been nice to me," she said.
