Obama Ex-Aide Van Jones: GOP 2016 Superstars Should Worry Dems

By    |   Sunday, 08 Feb 2015 09:30 PM

Democrats might need to worry about the diverse and interesting mix of likely 2016 GOP White House candidates, former Obama aide Van Jones said Sunday.

"Democrats should worry about the Republican primary. They’re beginning to look like the rainbow coalition," Jones said on ABC's "This Week."

"You may have two Latinos, [Texas Sen. Ted] Cruz and [Florida Sen. Marco] Rubio, a woman, [former Hewlett-Packard CEO] Carly Fiorina, a black man … [retired neurosurgeon] Ben Carson," he said, noting that any one of them could be "real superstars."

"And suddenly, you’ve got a very riveting primary on their side, nothing on our side,” he said. "I think Democrats should be very worried about that."

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is widely expected to be the Democrats' nominee with Vice President Joe Biden trailing double digits behind her. The far left wants Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren to join the race, but she repeatedly has said she will not run.
