Kasich: Trump Can't 'Yell at Legislators' and Get Things Done

Donald Trump may be the GOP presidential front-runner, but he won't end up being the nominee because his method at yelling at people to get things done won't work with Congress, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, who is running against Trump said on Sunday.

"You can't yell at legislators," Kasich said Sunday on "Face the Nation." "I used to be a legislator. Now I'm an executive. I've had the perspective from both sides.

"You want to fix social security, you can't bludgeon people into going along with it in the Congress," Kasich told host John Dickerson. "You want to provide for the national security and you need to rebuild the military you want to have a program that resolves a problem of encryption just can't do it by yelling at people. You have to work together."

Kasich also appeared Sunday on "The Cats Roundtable" on AM 970 in New York,  where he told host John Catsimatidis that Trump's plan to deport all illegal immigrants will hurt the country.

"I don't have anything against Mr. Trump personally, but we're not going to scoop up 11-and-a-half million people and ship them out," Kasich said. "He’s disparaged Hispanics and Muslims, and he’s insulted women. These are not the things that unify the country and make us stronger, and this just adds to that list."

On "Face the Nation," Kasich said Trump is creating more division with his suggestion of banning entry of all Muslims into the country.

"Everybody who is a Muslim isn't some terrorist, obviously," he said. "You have infinitesimal number who have distorted the religion and entered the culture of death."

Though polls showed Trump gaining support after the statement on Monday, Kasich said he isn't swayed.

"Let me also say about your polls: You're polling like 400 people out of 325 million," he said. "I see polls all the time. I become more convinced now that the reason that God invented pollsters was to make astrologers look accurate."

A Frank Luntz focus group that was featured just prior to Kasich's "Face the Nation" appearance showed his supporters are unwavered by anything Trump says or does.

Kasich said they represent a minority of thinking among GOP voters.

"Trump is not going to be president. And he's not going to be a nominee it's not going to happen," he said. "If they carry the day, we're not going to get things fixed."
