Lt. Col. Shaffer: Hamas Lets Civilians Die to Prove Point

By    |   Tuesday, 15 July 2014 07:12 PM EDT

Hamas turned down Egypt's cease-fire proposal and continued firing rockets from Gaza into Israel on Tuesday, and retired Lt. Col. Tony Shaffer says it's because the terrorist group doesn't care about the Palestinians and is just trying to prove a point.

"If Hamas was actually concerned about its Palestinian people, it would've taken the deal," Shaffer told Ed Berliner on "MidPoint" on Newsmax TV on Tuesday.

"It's very clear from their rejection that the Palestinian individuals who are running Hamas have no interest in their people," he explained. "This is about them trying to prove a point.

"The Egyptian deal, from what I can tell, was very well thought-out," Shaffer said. "The Israelis were ready to sign up to it."

Shaffer contends that "Hamas wants more blood and they want to try to convince the United Nations to come in."

"They're actually hiding weapons, these missiles, in the basements of common everyday folks, hoping that the Israelis will strike those houses and then, [so-called] 'civilian dead bodies,'" he said.

"So, it's all a sham on their part, and frankly, that's what they want," he added. "That's why they don't want the cease-fire."

Hamas is allegedly telling civilians to stand on the roofs of buildings at which Israel is firing rockets, which Shaffer said is a technique "actually perfected by Saddam Hussein."

"This is murder at the hand of your own leadership," he added.

"When the Israelis go about trying to do the hard work of actually going after these missiles, that's when the real challenge starts," Shaffer explained.

"This is where Hamas, again, is doing everything it can to prompt this worldwide, especially U.N., reaction to say 'woe is me, we're the victims here,'" he said.

Hamas is "doing everything they can to pick at the Israelis to try to continue to see their civilians dead for no other reason except to prove a political point."
