Former Rep. Tom Tancredo ripped New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's attacks on Texas lawmakers who voted against federal assistance for Superstorm Sandy in 2012, telling Newsmax TV on Tuesday that "I don't know what reason Christie has got for complaining."

"I can remember voting against the first disaster relief that went out into New Orleans," Tancredo, a Republican who represented Colorado from 1999 to 2009, told "Newsmax Now" hosts Bill Tucker and Tom Borelli.

"I don't know what reason Christie has got for complaining — and I don't know if anybody has raised the issues of were we in session or were we just going to do this again without any discussion of it.

"We were trying to get it out the door so quickly because we don't want anybody to suggest for a millisecond that the Congress and the Republicans don't care," he said.

Tancredo said he ultimately did not support the Sandy aid bill because it was proposed when Congress was out of session and was approved without full debate on costs and other issues.

"A member of the leadership goes on the floor, makes the proposal and then says, 'I move that we do this on unanimous consent.'

"Bang, it's done — and it's all over with.

"Nobody has participated. I'm just suggesting to you that that's a possibility.

"I'm telling you it has happened and when that happens you don't know what's in there.

"Oftentimes, it's a lot of money for things unrelated entirely to the disaster."
