Tom DeLay to Republicans: Hit the Tech to Beat Dems

(Newsmax TV's "America Talks Live")

By    |   Thursday, 15 March 2018 04:10 PM

The GOP is woefully lagging in its use of modern technology to get the vote out — and that is one big reason Democrat Conor Lamb beat Republican Rick Saccone in the special election in Pennsylvania this week, former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay told Newsmax TV on Thursday.

"There are lessons that come out of this election that Republicans better pay attention to," DeLay, a Texas Republican, told host Miranda Khan on Thursday's "America Talks Live."

"And the most important thing that nobody is playing attention to is the huge impressive organizational capabilities of the Democrats and their use of technology. They are so way ahead of the Republicans. Republicans don't even use technology or data analytics and that had a huge part to play.

"When Democrats can turn out 10, 20, 30 thousand volunteers on a moment's notice, that has a huge impact in the election . . . [and] it's going to get tougher. The Democrats really great at it."

In the closely watched U.S. House race, Lamb topped Saccone by 627 votes in a longtime GOP stronghold friendly to President Donald Trump. And some Republicans are taking it as a sign their control of the House could be in danger in the midterms this fall.

DeLay urged the GOP to adapt its campaign strategies for the 21st century.

"I hope . . . Republicans will realize that running an elections are different nowadays than 20 years ago," he told Khan. "You really have to be involved in technology. With technology you can virtually go door to door in your entire district, your entire state, and Democrats use that.

"The Republicans are not very good at it . . . The Republicans are notorious about using television ads all the time, and they run campaigns based on television ads and we've got to get away from that."

DeLay is the author of DeLay is the author of "Revival! Revolution! Rebirth!: A Radical Call from the Former Majority Leader of the United States House of Representatives," written with Wallace Henley and published by WND Books.
