Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay told Newsmax TV on Tuesday that President Donald Trump's feud with retiring Tennessee Republican Sen. Bob Corker was a "preview" for next year's midterm elections.

"You're getting a little preview of what's going to be happening in next year's elections, especially in the Republican Party," DeLay, the Texas congressman who served as the House's top GOP member from 2003 to 2005, told Bill Tucker on "Newsmax Now" in an interview.

"There are several members, including some in leadership, that don't particularly support Trump and don't like what he's doing — Corker being one of them — and you're going to see the party really going after each other.

"Right here in Texas, they're lining up like crazy," DeLay added. "It's only six months till the primary and incumbents are getting primaried all over the place.

"It's very interesting to watch."

He told Tucker that the primary difficulty in getting Trump's agenda passed was the Senate.

"It's the Senate that's the problem."

With a slim 52-48 margin, "two to three senators can completely upset everything," DeLay said.

He told Tucker that President Trump and former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon were focusing on recalcitrant senators in the midterms.

"Evidently, Bannon and Trump have decided that they're going to get what they can get done," he said.

"But coming next year during the elections, they're going to try to get more senators.

"They're going to try to knock off senators who are not working with them."
