Pro-Israel Group: Baptist Preacher Spouted Anti-Jewish Rhetoric

Thursday, 18 Jun 2015 05:18 PM

A Presbyterian church in Washington, D.C., was the scene of a shocking rant against Israel and conspiracy theories about Jewish people, Shiri Moshe, development assistant at The Israel Project, tells Newsmax TV.

Moshe, who wrote about the incident at TheTower.org, said Thursday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" that the disturbing incident at Sixth Presbyterian Church occurred last month during a lecture by the Rev. Dr. Heber M. Brown III, a senior preacher at a Baptist church in Baltimore.

"He was basically talking about his experience in Israel and the Palestinian territories and you can see from his language he considered basically the Israeli military to be occupying all of Palestine," Moshe said.

"His rhetoric was just very charged and he spoke about the Israeli control of the United States Congress and Israeli control of the presidency."

Most alarming, she added, was the audience's lack of reaction.

"There wasn't a single objection raised throughout the entire conference. People almost took the lies that were being promoted and all the distortions at face value," she said.

"No one thought to say, 'Hey, accusing Israel, and by the way, also the United States of genocide, accusing them of these horrible crimes against humanity, maybe you need to take a more measured tone.'"

Brown's talk was part of a civil-rights conference called Palestine and Zion: The Journey for Civil Rights.

Moshe said it was held to "explore ways African-American churches and congregations can respond to what they termed as the suffering experience by Palestinians in the Holy Land."

Her group, The Israeli Project, is a non-profit educational organization that provides factual information about Israel and the Middle East.
