Former House Speaker Tom DeLay, a staunch Republican strategist from Texas, praised the Democrats' grassroots campaign these midterms, especially in the once deep-red state of Texas.
"Republicans had their heads handed to them," DeLay told Monday's "The Brett Winterble Show" on Newsmax TV.
"In Texas, we took a whipping. [GOP Sen. Ted] Cruz won by only 2 points. We should have won by 10."

DeLay pointed to not only to the Democrats outworking Republicans in many races, but also the Republicans' failure to make good on the 2016 promise of repealing and replacing Obamacare.
"They were killed on healthcare," DeLay told Winterble. "They should have repealed Obamacare. Thank you, John McCain."
DeLay added Republicans should have called for another vote on the skinny repeal of Obamacare that was shot down in a decisive overnight vote by Sen. McCain, R-Ariz. It could have passed once his post-death replacement was tapped – Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz. – DeLay said.
"Why didn't they do that?" DeLay lamented.
