Steve Forbes: Dems Fear GOP Win Because Obama 'Still Doesn't Get' National Security

Democrats are worried about Republicans closing in on the White House next year because President Barack Obama "still doesn't get it" about national security and terrorism, former presidential candidate Steve Forbes told Newsmax TV on Tuesday.

"This is why the president's in trouble and he's going to get in more trouble in 2016," Forbes told "The Steve Malzberg Show" in an interview. "The American people don't feel he's doing enough."

"Even members of his own party in Congress are getting a queasy feeling he's not doing enough," he added. "People want vetting — and that's why they want the FBI involved."

"Clearly, we didn't do a very good job before in this day and age, and so they want something that is a little more secure."

"The American people are going to demand it — and that's one reason why the Democrats are worried is that this president still doesn't get it," Forbes said.

Forbes is the editor-in-chief of Forbes Media and he is the co-author of the new book, "Reviving America: How Repealing Obamacare, Replacing the Tax Code and Reforming the Fed Will Restore Hope and Prosperity."

Citing Ronald Reagan, Forbes told Malzberg that making the reforms put forth in his book is very possible "if you have the right president."

"Ronald Reagan demonstrated that back in 1980. Yes, the Republicans did get control of the Senate, but not a filibuster majority and they also did not have control of the House of Representatives in those days."

"But Reagan got the mandate from the public, vigorously pushed it through," Forbes added. "He knew how to negotiate; he learned that from his Hollywood days. He was willing to engage, take 80 percent instead of the 'my-way-or-the-highway' approach … and got it through."

"The key thing is will the president see it right? And that's one reason why we wrote this book: three big things, three big reforms. You've got those right."

"By golly, this country is going to come roaring back just as in the early '80s," Forbes told Malzberg. "What people forget, in the early '80s, economists said, it would take years for the economy to recover."

"Boom. Overnight. Do the right things. We blossomed."
