Rep. Bice to Newsmax: Message 'Lost' That Dobbs Decision Doesn't Ban Abortion

(Newsmax/"Saturday Report")

By    |   Saturday, 25 June 2022 12:37 PM EDT

The Supreme Court's decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization didn't ban abortion but made it a states' rights issue. Yet that is being missed in the outcry over the ruling that overturned Roe v. Wade, Rep. Stephanie Bice said on Newsmax Saturday.

"I think that that's a message that's being lost here," the Oklahoma Republican said on Newsmax's "Saturday Report." "Certainly, people have the right to protest as long as it's in a peaceful manner, but [the ruling] doesn't ban abortion. I think that's being missed here. This is a state rights issue now, and it puts that back to the people so they can elect elected officials like we have in Oklahoma that protect life."

She also questioned the large protests that took place in New York City Friday night, pointing out that that state is a pro-choice location.

"The state of New York chose to make abortion legal and that's the people's decision, but for the left to insinuate that this is something that is a complete and total ban is just not accurate at all," Bice said.

Meanwhile, the congresswoman said her constituents in Oklahoma are more concerned about inflation than they are about the Supreme Court's ruling or other related topics.

She also said she finds it "amazing" that President Joe Biden met this past week with wind industry executives rather than those from the oil and gas industry to work on solutions to the high price of gas.

"Not only did he not meet with oil and gas executives, but he wrote letters to the CEOs of top oil and gas companies accusing them of price gouging and telling them that he's going to use every available means within his executive power to right this ship," said Bice. "Righting the ship means allowing company oil and gas companies to drill."

However, the Biden administration "launched a full-on assault" on the industry from day one, and as a result, gas prices have skyrocketed, the congresswoman added.

"It's astonishing to me that he would rather look at the renewable industry, than look at allowing for American energy production, [including] right here in Oklahoma to allow for prices to decrease," Bice said.

Further, the use of wind farms and solar power as energy supplies is not possible without the raw materials that come from China, Bice said.

"We can't continue to rely on our adversaries like China to provide energy for this country," she said. "We've got to become energy independent once again."
