Scottie Nell Hughes: Boehner, Cruz Both Off-Base for Trading Insults

By    |   Thursday, 28 April 2016 05:58 PM EDT

Sworn enemies John Boehner and Ted Cruz were wrong to begin sniping at each other at this stage of the 2016 presidential campaign, Scottie Nell Hughes, chief political correspondent for the USA Radio Networks, tells Newsmax TV.

But if anybody benefits from the bitter verbal free-for-all — which began when the former GOP House speaker labeled Cruz as "Lucifer in the flesh" and a "miserable son of a b****" — it will be the Texas senator, whose whole presidential bid desperately needs a boost, Hughes said.

"It's inappropriate and it's really irrelevant what John Boehner said about Ted Cruz," Hughes told J.D. Hayworth on "Newsmax Prime."

"[But] it was manna from heaven [for Cruz] and by golly they need some good news as they've been on a track record of losing, lately."

But Hughes then let loose on Cruz for responding that Boehner had "allowed his inner Trump to come out."

"It was very inappropriate that [Cruz] sits there and links it to Donald Trump when Mr. Trump had nothing to do with this," she said. "Don't sit there and try to put that establishment mark onto Mr. Trump because, guess what, the people know better."

Cruz's supporters believe that the Boehner blasts will help Cruz's credibility as a political outsider since Boehner is considered part of the old guard GOP that people are fed up with.

Boehner, who has said very little since he resigned from the speaker post last year, cannonballed into the explosive presidential race on Wednesday as he blasted Ted Cruz as a "miserable son of a b****" and likened him to "Lucifer in the flesh" during an address to students at Stanford University.

He has fired verbal missiles at Cruz in the past, once labeling him a "jackass" for his hand in helping shut down the government in 2013 and his ongoing combat with fellow Republicans in the Senate.

Hughes said Republicans desperately need to find a way to unify going into the general election.

"Or we will really have a problem on our hands called Hillary Clinton in the presidency … We're going to have to find some sort of common ground if we really want to fight who the true enemy is. It's not on the Republican side, it's on the Democrat side," she said.

Hughes, who Right Wing News to their annual Top 20 Hottest Conservative Women in the New Media in 2013, is author of "Roar: The New Conservative Woman Speaks Out," published by Worthy.
