Rick Ungar: Walker 'Has the Most to Lose' at Iowa State Fair

By    |   Thursday, 13 Aug 2015 10:04 PM

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker could be setting himself up for a "faux pas" at the Iowa State Fair, one that could cost him a chance at advancing his Republican campaign for president, one expert told Newsmax.

Rick Ungar, a senior political contributor for Forbes, told Newsmax TV's "Newsmax Now" that Walker has the "most to lose" of any other candidate in the race should he trip up.

"He was going to be my choice for who's in line to make the largest faux pas. He does," Ungar said. "You got it absolutely right. He has the most to lose by a long shot. He was leading all the way, suddenly he's dropped to third, if he loses the Iowa, I don't know that it's the end of him.

"What happens is he goes to New Hampshire. I don't think anybody expects him to do particularly well there and then he heads down south. If he loses the first southern primary, if he loses one or two, it's hard to imagine that he can go any further beyond that."

Walker once led in early polling after his CPAC speech in February, but his stock has dropped slightly and he's now the third GOP candidate in major national polls, according to Real Clear Politics.

Ungar and fellow panel member Ford O'Connell, a Republican strategist, also discussed Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson during the "Newsmax Now" segment.

A retired neurosurgeon who is African-American, Carson is gaining ground in the polls and is now second behind Donald Trump in one poll of Iowa voters.

Some experts have said, however, that Carson might face an uphill challenge in gaining support in black communities.

"A lot of people don't know who Ben Carson is – he's a very accomplished man who came up from a very poor upbringing," O'Connell said. "I do agree with Dr. Carson not just about black lives matter and finding solutions. Black Lives Matter is a force. The African-American community is pissed off but this is a George Soros-funded operation that is not much different than Occupy Wall Street. Its sole job is to make sure that Hillary Clinton is the nominee and to put a lot of independent voters on their heels about Republicans."
