Jeb Bush Adviser: He'd Bring Many Strengths to Presidency

By    |   Thursday, 10 July 2014 06:19 PM EDT

Editor's Note: Every day this week "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV takes you on “The Road to the White House,” a look at some of the top presidential contenders for 2016.

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush would make a very viable GOP candidate in 2016, despite his position on immigration, says Justin Sayfie, Bush's former senior policy adviser.

"In 2008 and 2012, Republican primary voters had a choice and they chose in one instance John McCain and another instance they chose Mitt Romney,'' Sayfie told "The Steve Malzberg Show" Thursday on Newsmax TV.

"I would even argue that in 2012, those who consider themselves members of the tea party were very, very active in the primary process.

"Yet our presidential nominee was Mitt Romney from Massachusetts, who passed a version of Obamacare when he was governor.''

Even Bush's controversial statement that immigrants who enter the U.S. illegally are doing it as an "act of love,'' shouldn't pose an obstacle, believes Sayfie, who is president and CEO of Sayfie Media.

"He's the kind of leader that calls it as he sees it. He's not going to tailor his comments, tailor his views based on what he feels is politically expedient,'' he said.

"That's how he feels and that's one of the things that I have a lot of respect for him is that he puts it out there, he doesn’t stick his finger in the wind and poll-test things and decide that's where we're going to go.

"The definition of leadership is not looking at the polls and deciding what you're going to do … He brings so many other strengths were he decide to run that … wouldn't ultimately be suicidal or fatal.''

Bush's mother Barbara Bush made news by saying she thought the nation had seen enough Bushes in the White House — her husband George H.W. Bush and son George W. Bush.

Sayfie called it "perfectly natural'' to ask the question, just as one might wonder whether there should be another Clinton in the White House, should Hillary Clinton seek the Democratic nomination.

"At the end of the day, ultimately the American public will judge every candidate on his or her merits and that's the way it should be and not based on who their brother was or who their sister was or who their father was or who their mother was,'' Sayfie said.

"At the end of the day when the American people and the American voter goes to vote who they want to represent them in the oval office, they'll make their decision based on the qualifications and experience of the person that's seeking the nomination or seeking the presidency.''

Asked whether he believes Jeb Bush will decide to run for president, Sayfie has no answer.

"It is something that is such a personal decision … It's really an impossible game to try to figure out what he may or may not do, so I've stopped putting odds on it,'' he said.

"We're just going to have to wait for him to get to making that personal decision. Personally … I'm really interested to see whether LeBron James is going to stay with the Miami Heat.

"That's a decision that we're going to get. We're going to get that before Gov. Bush makes his decision.''
