Pastor Abedini: Iranians Don't Have Real Choices in Election

By    |   Monday, 29 Feb 2016 09:03 PM

Saeed Abedini, the Christian pastor held captive in Iran for four years, tells Newsmax TV  Iranians didn't have real choices in Monday's Parliament election.

"I believe that there is not so many options for the people to vote, he said Monday on "Newsmax Now." "They don't have their own people, the people that they really want to be in the Parliament to vote for them. So because of that, this election, it's not actually a vote of people."

Abedini, a naturalized American citizen, was imprisoned after returning to his native country to start Christian churches. He said his imprisonment was hard, but he was glad to suffer for his faith, and was able to talk to people in prison about the hope he has found in Jesus Christ.

"The things that we talk about is about the love of God, and we really care about the people in Iran, which sometimes they think are very isolated … and no one cares about them," he said. "So I'm actually very thankful to the Lord that gave me this opportunity to suffer for his glory and give the glory to him and preach the Gospel in prison."

Abedini said he had a vision of Jesus 16 years ago telling him to preach the gospel, so he began planting churches in Iran.

He said he is working on his marriage after his wife, Naghmeh, filed for legal separation in January. She stopped publicly fighting for his cause because she said he was abusive and had a pornography addiction.

"We both went through a very hard situation," Saeed Abedini said Monday. "And actually, our marriage situation right now in this point is not in a good situation, but we are working on it. There are so many pastors helping me and Naghmeh. … I'm trying my best to work on my marriage, and I believe God's in control."
