Rep. Russell Fry to Newsmax: US Deserves Answers About Balloon

By    |   Saturday, 04 February 2023 08:25 PM EST

Americans deserve answers about why an unmanned Chinese surveillance balloon was allowed to fly across the United States throughout the week until Saturday when it was shot down near Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Rep. Russell Fry, R-S.C., told Newsmax.

"Hats off to the military, the men and women in uniform, who did that incredible job to take it down the way that they did," Fry, who represents the congressional district near where the balloon was taken out, told "The Count."

The balloon "really opened up our eyes in the entire country's eyes to the threat that China poses to our national security," Fry told host Logan Ratick.

But when President Joe Biden offered only a one-word response about the balloon Saturday, when asked if it was being taken down, that was not enough, according to Fry.

"Why was this balloon allowed to enter our airspace and travel from Alaska all the way through Canada through Montana and all the way to South Carolina?" he said. "Why was it allowed to even enter to begin with?"

Fry said he understands the concerns about shooting the balloon down over populated areas, but "there's a lot of open space in Montana and Kansas and Alaska that this thing could have been taken out."

"I think for me and for my colleagues in Congress, and really for the American people, there are a lot more unanswered questions at this point," he concluded.
