Rob Astorino: Rudy is Trump's Security Blanket

By    |   Friday, 20 April 2018 05:23 PM

President Donald Trump's tapping of Rudy Giuliani to join his legal team is an excellent move that will likely help ease the commander in chief's frazzled nerves in the wake of the federal probe swirling around his campaign, former Westchester County executive Rob Astorino told Newsmax TV on Friday.

"Rudy is kind of like the 'Linus blanket' for Trump," Astorino told Miranda Khan and John Cardillo on Newsmax TV's "America Talks Live," referring to the beloved "Peanuts" character who carries a security blanket with him everywhere.

"[Rudy's] been a good friend … I think he's like eyes and ears for Trump, saying look … we are actually making some headway, stay back a little bit.

"I think he's a psychological help for a president who quite frankly has been under siege since the day he got elected [and] before he was sworn in," he added.

Giuliani, who served as the mayor of New York City from the 1994 to 2001 and was also a U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced Thursday that he was joining Trump's legal team to try to end Russia special counsel Robert Mueller's probe "for the good of the country."

"I'm doing it because I hope we can negotiate an end to this for the good of the country and because I have high regard for the president and for Bob Mueller," Giuliani told The Washington Post in an interview.

Giuliani, 73, a longtime Trump ally, said he formalized his decision in recent days, and had dinner with the president last week at the Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. He joins Trump's current team of personal attorneys, Jay Sekulow and Ty Cobb.
