Ron Christie: Media Falsely Pin 'Sexist' Tag on GOP '16 Hopefuls

By    |   Friday, 10 Apr 2015 04:03 PM

The mainstream media are attempting to tarnish Republican presidential hopefuls as sexists engaged in a phony "war on women," Republican political consultant Ron Christie says.

"The Democrats in the media of course … [it's] one and the same thing when you look at the mainstream media are trying to gin up this 'war on women' narrative and it's a false narrative," Christie said Friday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

Christie's remarks came after Sen. Rand Paul was accused of having a problem with women when he tussled with Savannah Guthrie over his foreign policy views on NBC's "Today" show.

Paul, a first-term Kentucky Republican, accused Guthrie of talking over him and editorializing after she aggressively grilled him about his purportedly changing views on Iran and foreign aid for Israel.

"Why don't you let me explain instead of talking over me?" Paul told Guthrie. "Before we go through a litany of things you say I changed on, why don't you ask me a question: Have you changed your opinion?' That would be a better way to approach an interview. No, no, no, no, listen. You editorialized."

Christie — a former staffer for Vice President Dick Cheney and now CEO of Christie Strategies and a Daily Beast columnist — said Paul was right to get prickly.

"Savannah Guthrie, if you listen to what she said and the way that she said it, there's no way that anybody would ever ask … [Hillary] Clinton … the same question the same way.

"But, of course, it's you're asking some white guy from Kentucky, oh, now he's beating up on women."

Christie also recommends that Republican candidates for president latch onto the right-to-life crusade.

"I'm a proud pro-life Republican, and the Republicans should frankly embrace this issue. We ran away from it [in 2012] … Mitt Romney had a muddled position," Christie said.

"Look, we're the party of life. We recognize that this is a child that is in a woman's body. It's not some 'thing,' it's not some 'it.' It's a child."
