Roger Stone, former Trump campaign adviser and longtime ally, told Newsmax on Thursday that Republican senators who oppose any of the president-elect's Cabinet nominees does so at their own political peril.
Stone joined "Finnerty" to talk about the reticence of a handful of Republican senators who are balking at choices like secretary of defense nominee Pete Hegseth and intelligence chief nominee Tulsi Gabbard.
"Well, unfortunately, the real divide in Washington is not between Republicans and Democrats. It's between the reform-minded, populist outsider Donald Trump, who already had an incredibly successful first term as president, bringing reform, and it's an entrenched Washington establishment seeking to resist it," Stone told host Rob Finnerty.
"Any Republican senator who misreads the results of the last election, the sweeping victory, the decisive mandate won by Donald Trump, votes against the president's nominees at their own folly, to their own damage," Stone added.
"It's interesting; the Democrats only had 50 votes in the Senate when [Joe] Biden was elected president. Every one of his cabinet members was approved with bipartisan support. But that doesn't happen for Donald Trump," Stone said. "And now, if you're a Republican senator, say, in South Dakota or Oklahoma, and you are thinking about voting against one of these great nominees, all of whom are extraordinarily qualified, you're endangering your future in public office in the future Republican primary, in my opinion."
