Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., told Newsmax on Wednesday about the importance of some provisions of the bipartisan National Defense Authorization Act, the annual Pentagon spending bill that the Senate scheduled for a vote Wednesday.
The $886 billion bill includes a 5.2% pay raise for the military, as well as money for the purchase of ships and planes, as well as aid to Ukraine. It is one of the few budgetary measures that Congress comes together to pass each year.
"The most important thing is always to make sure we have a military that can defeat easily our enemies," Scott told "American Agenda." "Every year, we've got to fight to make sure every part of our military is able to do that. Unfortunately, now we know China wants to demolish our way of life. Russia, Iran, North Korea. There are a lot of problems in the world."
A part of the NDAA that is important to Scott is a prohibition for the U.S. to buy any drones made by China.
"One thing that was really important to me is to make sure that our federal government stops buying Chinese drones," Scott said. "As we know, China wants to surveil us, right? They sent a spy balloon across [the U.S.], they've got a spy base down in Cuba. I want to make sure we stop buying their drones. And so that's in the bill.
"I think that's going to be a big win to make sure that we have a better drone industry in this country, and we don't have Chinese drones in our country."
