Miami Activist: I Don't See Rubio Beating Trump On Tuesday

Donald Trump is beginning the "metamorphosis" into a general election presidential candidate, according to Miami community activist, TV commentator and healthcare executive, Raul Mas Canosa.

In a panel interview on Newsmax TV's "Battleground Florida: Fight for the Primary" on Saturday, Mas tells hosts John Bachman and J.D. Hayworth that Florida Sen. Marco Rubio likely won't overcome his polling lag behind Trump ahead of the state's crucial contest Tuesday.

"I think it'd be a really, really tough hill to climb, quite frankly," he said the Florida lawmaker's chances of a primary win Tuesday. "The polls that I've seen indicate that Trump has sort of a double digit lead and I just don't see him overcoming that any time soon."

But Mas noted Trump is already pivoting to a general election person.

"I think you're already starting to see the metamorphosis," he said, adding that at the last GOP presidential debate in Miami last Thursday. "He was already acting more presidential, he was acting more sort of above the fray, but still with that same degree of confidence which has taken him to where he is today."

"He's still being very honest, very candid, but … he's beginning to act more presidential, more as if I'm the guy who's going to be leading the Republican Party in the next few weeks."

Panel guest Carlos Perez, a former Cuba adviser to President Ronald Reagan, added the nation is "witnessing one of the most strange elections in the history of the country."

"There is a feeling that the prestige of the American government has been eroding," creating a "situation where you have a candidate like Trump," he said

"The older conservatives, we have lost, we are losing the punch to reach the people. There is a new concept of conservatism that is integrated into the mentality of the American people. That's the situation with Trump."

And though Rubio represents "the best exposure of ideas since Ronald Reagan" and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz "has [a] fantastic ability to expose ideas, "it's going to be very difficult that Donald Trump lose the election."

Mas agreed, adding: "Rating is power… and [Trump is] a genius at that."
