David Horowitz: World Should Support Iranian Protesters

President Donald Trump's support of homegrown demonstrations against the "brutal and corrupt Iranian regime" should be embraced globally in a bid to stem terrorism, David Horowitz, author of "Big Agenda: President Trump's Plan to Save America," told Newsmax TV on Tuesday.

"If the world would support these demonstrators, there's a chance to overthrow one of the most dangerous, bloodthirsty, evil regimes in the world," Horowitz, founder of The David Horowitz Freedom Center, a conservative think-tank, told Miranda Khan on Newsmax TV's "America Talks Live."

"The Iranians have killed more Americans than any other country. They've produced all the IEDs that have maimed and killed our soldiers in Iraq. They're an imperialist power. They have the whole region up in arms now to defend themselves against them."

Trump praised Iranian protesters Tuesday for acting against Tehran's "brutal and corrupt" regime after days of unrest that have seen 21 people killed and hundreds arrested.

"The people of Iran are finally acting against the brutal and corrupt Iranian regime," Trump tweeted, a day after calling for regime change in the Islamic republic.

"All of the money that President Obama so foolishly gave them went into terrorism and into their 'pockets.' The people have little food, big inflation and no human rights. The US is watching!"

Horowitz said he believes Trump is trying to undo damage done by President Barack Obama's foreign policy in the Middle East.

"Obama built his whole foreign policy – let's not forget this – around supporting the Iranian regime . . . The worst thing he did probably was to lift the sanctions from Iran on the hopes that these bloodthirsty tyrants reform themselves," he said.

"Part of the reason there are these massive demonstrations is that people are hurting in Iran. Without, unfortunately, the sanctions now that if they had been in place this regime might be over."

Horowitz claims "tens of thousands of people" have died since 2009 because of Obama's "feckless, cowardly appeasement of this regime . . . namely in Syria but also in Iraq."

"So what Trump is doing now is rallying world leaders," Horowitz told Khan. "You know when you stand up and you take a stand in defense of democracy, other people tend to follow you.

"Look at what Trump did in Saudi Arabia by forming a coalition of the Sunni-Arab states against Iran, and he's taking that leadership now. It's such a dramatic contrast to the appeasement policies of Obama that cost so many lives needlessly.

"The next thing he needs to do is to cut off all funds to the terrorist regime in Palestine and end this illusion that there can be a peace process with terrorists who would kill you."
