Dershowitz to Newsmax TV: DC Will Be Tougher on Manafort

Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort has a better chance of being found not guilty in his current trial than the next one because of the jury pool, attorney Alan Dershowitz told Newsmax TV.

During an appearance on "Newsmax Now," Dershowitz was asked about Manafort's ongoing trial in Alexandria, Virginia, for tax evasion and other federal charges. The jury has been deliberating the case since Thursday.

"Everybody reads tea leaves, nobody really knows," Dershowitz said in regard to the time its taken the jury to deliberate. "It could be they're going over every one of the elements of all the crimes very carefully.

"They've asked a couple of thoughtful questions. It could be that there's some division. None of the notes suggest that there's a division at the moment."

Dershowitz went on to say Manafort has a better chance of getting off during this current trial, rather than the second trial slated to be held in Washington, D.C., next month.

"This is a jury that is comprised of both Republicans and Democrats in a blue-red state," Dershowitz said. "Once they move to the District of Columbia, they're gonna get a very favorable jury to the prosecution and a judge who's already revoked Manafort's bail.

"So, they're gonna have all the advantages in Washington. This is the only place where I think the advantage may lie possibly with Manafort."

The jury was dismissed at 6:15 p.m. ET on Monday with no verdict, so they will return to the courthouse in the morning to continue deliberations.
