Michael Reagan: Trump Too Strong for Oprah in 2020

(Newsmax TV's "America Talks Live")

Oprah Winfrey will "never" be elected president of the United States, despite calls from liberals for her to run for the White House in 2020, Michael Reagan tells Newsmax TV.

"Oprah would be great as president of the Screen Actors Guild – I think that would work for her," the veteran political commentator and the son of Ronald Reagan told host Miranda Khan on Tuesday's "America Talks Live."

"I think she'd get elected as president of the Screen Actors Guild if she wanted to run — but she will never be president of the United States. Now, Hollywood would vote for her. All the people who voted for Hillary would vote for her, but that's not enough to win the Electoral College.

"I still feel Donald Trump wins in 2020, because there's really no candidate from the Democrat Party to, in fact, run against him, and certainly no issue at all that they can bring to the table."

Oprah was capitulated into the political spotlight Sunday as she accepted a lifetime achievement honor at the Golden Globe Awards and made an impassioned speech about female empowerment in the wake of rampant sexual abuse against women in Hollywood and the nation.

Since then, there has been a groundswell of support for Winfrey to throw her hat in the ring — something the actress and queen of daytime talk is said to be not actively pursuing, but admits she finds intriguing.

Reagan does not believe Winfrey purposely tried to stoke talk of a presidential run.

"I know Oprah Winfrey is liberal, but that wasn't a political speech she gave the other night," Reagan told Khan. "That was a speech on what was going on in Hollywood and around the globe, the whole 'me too' issue.

"This had to do with what was going on with the harassment of women in Hollywood that's been going on for years. That's why she got the applause . . . To me, it wasn't political at all.

"To me, she was making her point [that] never again should we have to live like this – where women are harassed and have to move up the scale in Hollywood as actors or actresses by allowing themselves to live through this."

Reagan is the author of "Lessons My Father Taught Me: The Strength, Integrity, and Faith of Ronald Reagan," with Jim Denney contributing and published by Humanix Books.
