Doctor: Obamacare Puts 'Cost Control' Before Patients

By    |   Friday, 19 Sep 2014 12:16 PM

Obamacare has forced doctors to choose between the business of practicing medicine and the best interests of their patients, Dr. Elaina George, an Atlanta otolaryngologist, said  Friday on Newsmax TV's “America’s Forum.”

“It's made me have to make a choice between practicing medicine the way I trained using the Hippocratic Oath and working against the interest of my patients,” George said. “That's the stark reality for every doctor on the front line. It's about being able to offer services, keep your doors open, pay your staff and be able to practice medicine where the patient interest is first, not cost control.

"I will not be a part of Obamacare. I can't be because the Hippocratic Oath to me is sacrosanct.”

In order to serve the needs of her patients, George offers to barter service and a sliding scale for the uninsured. Obamacare has resulted in a two-tiered system that separates the haves from the have-nots, she said.

“Those who can afford to opt out do so, and those who can't are stuck in a system that denies them access and denies them care. That's the bottom line.”

The architects of the Affordable Care Act, informally known as Obamacare, never asked doctors, patients or anyone on the front lines about how to revamp the American healthcare system, she said.

“It was never about health, it was about control,” said George, whose specialty as an otolaryngologist are the ears, nose and throat. “Doctors across the country and patients are waking up to the fact that this is not what was promised.

"Today, I lost a patient who couldn't afford to come and see me because her deductible is so high and she had to cancel her appointment. Another patient can't have the proper procedures because his out-of-pocket copay is so high.

"There's a difference between carrying health insurance and actually being able to afford to see your doctor."

The government “doubled down” on the most expensive parts of healthcare and promised Americans “they were going to get something for nothing,” and in reality the price tag is going to continue to rise, George said.

The end game for Obamacare is socialized medicine, according to George.

“That's what this Affordable Care Act is pushing us towards,” she said. “What that means is the government takes control.

"It's no longer the doctor and the patient get to decide what constitutes healthcare. The government and the insurance companies are now practicing medicine."
