Mustafa Tameez to Newsmax TV: Trump Was 'Passing the Buck' to States on Vaccines

It doesn't make sense to blame the nation's 50 governors for all the failure to get coronavirus vaccinations delivered efficiently, and former President Donald Trump was "passing the buck" when he worked to develop the drug but not a way to deliver it, Democrat strategist Mustafa Tameez told Newsmax TV Friday.

"I don't understand this notion that President Trump was smart enough to invest in the vaccine and all 50 governors, Republican and Democrat across the country, are complete idiots," Tameez, the president and founder of Outreach Strategists, said during a panel discussion on Newsmax TV's "Wake Up America." "That makes no sense. If you're going to develop the drug, then that means you should have a plan that's funded to actually deliver it. If you couldn't make that connection, then you're really passing the buck."

But with Trump, that's what "he has done, and it failed," said Tameez. "Now we're trying to find excuses and blame everybody but the guy who was elected president of the United States of America. That makes no sense to me."

Former New York Lt. Gov. Betsy McCaughey, who was also part of the discussion, argued, however, that the failures occurred because governors did not believe that vaccines would be in place by December, and when the Centers for Disease Control wanted their plans for distribution they were not ready and submitted "pages and pages of blather."

The panel also discussed the move to impeach Trump after he's left office. According to reports, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is expected to send the House impeachment article to the Senate as early as Monday, despite Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's request that more time is allowed to give Trump's legal team time to work on the defense.

It is clear that the Senate won't want to split days while working on the impeachment, constitutional law attorney Ameer Benno, also on the panel, said, adding the trial could become protracted.

Tameez also shot back after there was some speculation on the part of others in the panel on the likelihood of remaining in office for his full term.

"Joe Biden is in great health and if anybody doubts it, he rides his bike, he is active, measured with his words," said Tameez. "He is doing everything that we would expect from an American president. I think to say anything contrary to that is spin."
