Donald Trump's reported selection of Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his running mate is a major step toward Republican unity, political strategist Dick Morris told
Newsmax TV on Thursday.
"He's the candidate of the Republican Party," Morris told "The Hard Line" host Ed Berliner in an interview.

"Donald Trump didn't take over the Republican Party. He defeated it in the Republican primary.
"And the defeated Republican Party says, 'We'll support him but we want a gesture to show us that you're still a Republican — and we want Mike Pence,'" Morris added.
"That was essentially why Pence got that nomination: straight conservative, good record in the House, good record as governor, reliable — and salving and soothing the wounds of the Republican Party."
Morris is author of the new book
"Armageddon: How Trump Can Beat Hillary" with Eileen McGann, available at bookstores everywhere and online at both
Barnes & Noble and
Amazon.
