Michelle Malkin: Muslim Head Covering Case Impedes Rights

By    |   Monday, 01 Jun 2015 08:26 PM

The Supreme Court ruling Monday in favor of a Muslim woman who was denied employment because she was wearing a head covering to her job interview is another example of political correctness caving in to liberties, author and commentator Michelle Malkin tells Newsmax TV.

Groups such as the Council on American-Islamic Relations pretend to be standing up for the religious liberty of Muslims, but "really have something else in mind," Malkin told "Newsmax Prime" on Monday.

"There's something much more insidious and nefarious going on, and we see it whether it's impeding private businesses' rights to decide what an employee should wear to everything from impeding the government's ability to ensure national security," she said.

Malkin also mentioned the Muslim woman who was refused an unopened can of Diet Coke  on an airplane who said she was discriminated against for her religion.

"The grievance-mongering industry has a very good way of forcing this country to apologize for the freedoms that we do have and in essence what we're talking about here is the tacit adoption of sharia laws in America," she said.

Malkin said she doesn't agree with the court's finding that failure of Abercrombie & Fitch to hire the woman because of her head covering was the same as failing to hire a person whose last name sounds Jewish.

"My concern more is with a lot of business owners of faith who, on the other side of the spectrum, have been prevented from deciding who to cater to when it comes to things like wedding cakes," she said. "Their freedom of consciousness has been encroached upon more and more and the point is that it's very selective, who gets protected and who doesn't."

Malkin's new book, "Who Built That: Awe-Inspiring Stories of American Tinkerpreneurs," is a take-off on President Barack Obama's statement that businesses owe a debt to the community and government. It celebrates America's inventors, including those who invented the bottle cap and toilet paper.

"This is really my personal manifesto against the wealth-shaming progressives of this country, chief of all of course the progressive in chief, Barack Obama," she said.

"While the first part of the book is definitely what people know me for, which is the fire-breathing dragon that I am, the rest of the book is really a joyful history, a journey through American history of unsung tinkerpreneurs and innovators out there who deserve a lot more credit than they're getting," Malkin said.
