RNC Chair to Newsmax: Debate a Chance for Trump to Show Vision

By    |   Monday, 09 September 2024 03:30 PM EDT

Michael Whatley, chair of the Republican National Committee, told Newsmax on Monday that former President Donald Trump has a chance to shine in Tuesday's debate against Vice President Kamala Harris.

"I think it's a great opportunity for President Trump to lay out his vision for making America great again," Whatley said on "Newsline." "I think there are going to be millions of people who are going to be watching, breathlessly, waiting to see if Kamala Harris is going to double down on all of the failed policies that she's championed over her career, or whether she's going to flip-flop live on national TV."

Whatley said Trump plans to communicate to voters about his plan to restore the southern border, rebuild the economy, and make America strong on the world stage.

"The most serious interaction that she had with Putin was when she told him to not invade Ukraine, which he then promptly turned around five days later and did," Wheatley said. "She is not a force on the world stage. The Biden-Harris administration has really, truly led us into a place where America is weaker, and our allies are suffering.

"Take a look at what's happening in Israel right now. Look what's happening in Ukraine right now. The fact that China is saber-rattling across the South Pacific right now, none of that was taking place when President Trump was in office and America was in a much stronger place, and the world was in a much safer place."

While this is the only scheduled presidential debate, Whatley said he would like to see more.

"I think there is plenty that we need to see about Kamala Harris being on stage, standing up for 90 minutes without notes," Whatley said. "I know she really wanted to sit down and have a crib sheet with her, but this is an opportunity to show who she is.

"She's going to say whatever she needs to say in order to try and win this election. But I think the American people are a lot smarter than that."

Whatley said Trump is the only candidate who is going to unify the country and make America great again.
