Sunday's second presidential debate for Donald Trump is "probably the most important night of his life," political commentator Michael Reagan tells Newsmax TV.

In an interview Thursday on "The Steve Malzberg Show," the eldest son of former President Ronald Reagan said the GOP nominee can learn a lot from the debate performance of his running mate, Gov. Mike Pence —and even from the Democratic nominee, Sen. Tim Kaine.

"There's a lot of things that Trump could learn from both," Reagan said.

"One, stepping back and saying 'you know, maybe I made a mistake,' and two, really learn from the way Mike Pence handled that debate… It was wonderful," Reagan said. "I looked at it and said 'my God, Mike Pence knows how to dance.'"

Reagan said Kaine, though panned for his repeated interruptions, at least "made fun of it —'Listen, my wife went after me, I made a mistake, I was terrible, I was lousy' —and dealt with it."

"Sunday night is probably the most important night of his life because if he doesn't do well in that debate on Sunday night, he will not be Donald Trump the winner, he'll be Donald Trump the chump," Reagan declared.

Reagan argued the "damage" done in Trump's first debate involved not only his performance — but his Twitter tirade afterward targeting former Miss Universe Alicia Machado.

"The [Trump] kids ought to take the cell phone and the Twitter account away from him, lock it in a room, and don't let him have it again until Nov. 9 because the damage that was done in the last debate," he said. "But more damage was done the day after the debate. And the day after that, and the day after that when he kept on going after Miss Whomever."

Reagan also contends Trump let a golden opportunity go by at the first debate with Hillary Clinton.

"Donald Trump had 90 minutes to bring it up and never brought it up one time —Benghazi, what about Benghazi?" Reagan said. "Never showed up."And other than one mention of Clinton's private email server scandal, Trump "didn't follow it up."

"Donald Trump blew it when he had a chance to bring it up because if he would have brought it up, it would have been talked about on Monday morning instead of Miss Venezuela," he said referring to Machado.
