Michael Reagan: My Father 'Wouldn't Want to' Be in Politics Today
(Wire Services) Wouldn't Put Up With It? Ronald Reagan

By    |   Thursday, 03 September 2015 06:57 PM EDT

Former President Ronald Reagan "wouldn’t want to come back" to the current hostile climate among and toward Republicans, conservative commentator Michael Reagan told Newsmax TV on Thursday.

"We find more reasons not to support Republicans than to support Republicans," Reagan told "Newsmax Prime" host J.D. Hayworth. "You can't say anything about anybody in this race positive without somebody else who's got a dog in the race attacking you.

"I get attacked for saying good things about Rick Perry, for example, for good things about you name it. I get attacked for not even being a Reagan. I've got conservatives coming at me saying, 'You have no reason to talk, you're not a Reagan, you were adopted.'

"We have a very angry, mean electorate about there — and you know people want my father back," Reagan said. "He left it a few years ago, and you know we screwed it up."

Reagan cited the case of defiant Kentucky Clerk Kim Davis, who was jailed Thursday for refusing to grant marriage licenses to gay couples.

Davis, the clerk of Rowan County, is a registered Democrat. She is denying the licenses based on her Christian beliefs. The Supreme Court upheld same-sex marriage in a 5-4 ruling in June.

"She's taken, all of a sudden, this holier-than-thou stand," he told Hayworth. "Didn't she get elected as a Democrat? And don't the Democrats basically support Planned Parenthood and what they're doing with baby parts?

"It's interesting, she's picking and choosing where she wants to make a stand — and the reality of it is, if she didn't want to get involved in this, she shouldn't have gotten a job with the government."
