Michael Reagan: Obama Said What He Thinks People Want to Hear

By    |   Friday, 12 Sep 2014 01:43 PM

President Barack Obama's speech detailing his plan to combat the Islamic State (ISIS) was based on what he thinks the American people want to hear, political commentator Michael Reagan tells Newsmax TV.

"He should've listened to George W. Bush," Reagan told J.D. Hayworth on "America's Forum" Friday. "He should've listened to his Joint Chiefs of Staff. He should've listened to his former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

"He should've listened to those people who had a lot more knowledge than he did," he explained.

"Instead, he's waiting for the people to make a decision and tell him what they want him to do," he said.

"You cannot listen to the American people in this situation and find out what we want you to do because we don't have all of the information that you should have," he added.

The son of former President Ronald Reagan said that Obama needs to stop telling the enemy what he's going to do and just do it.

"We would've supported him going into Syria the other night while he was speaking," Reagan said.

"Why are you telling those who you want to go to war against what you will and will not do?" he asked.

"You do not do those type of things in this type of a setting that he has put himself into," he added.

"They are scrambling at this point at the White House when they should be sitting down with the Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff and all of the military leaders to find out what they need to do," Reagan explained.

The other concern that the political commentator says that needs to be considered is how a fight with Syria may affect our relationship with Russia.

"They are going to have a whole lot of other people involved in what's going to be going on Syria now because he's basically said this is what we're going to do," he said. "He felt that is what the American people wanted to hear."

As a result, "they are now going to have Putin involved."

"He's basically just said to the Russians and Putin this is his plan, this is what he's going to do," Reagan explained.

"Mark my words, you're going to see Putin react in the future," he said.

"Remember who Putin supports — he supports the Syrian leadership and Assad in Syria, that's who he supports," he added.

"When you go to war against Syria, are you basically also going into war in some way against Putin and Russia."
