Michael Reagan: 'Not Easy for Me' to Watch This 'Narcissistic President'

The oldest son of former President Ronald Reagan said he found watching Donald Trump's Thursday press conference difficult because he is a "narcissistic president" who endlessly brags about "what I have done.''

Michael Reagan told Newsmax TV's "The Steve Malzberg Show" that while he thought Trump handled himself well during his 75-minute appearance before reporters, there was too much "I, I, I."

"He handled himself the way Donald Trump handles himself: It's always about what I have done," the veteran political commentator said.

"And so you know it's going to be this way – the narcissistic president that he is – but we're going to have to learn just to keep on dealing with it for the next four or in fact eight years."

Reagan said he grew up watching other presidents, including his father, be inclusive of all Americans when they spoke of their accomplishments.

Which, he noted, is not the case with the billionaire business tycoon.

"It's always about 'What I have done, I have done, I have done,'" Reagan said. "Remember, I come from a generation of listening to a guy saying 'What we have done, what we're going to accomplish, what you and I can do together.'

"I listened to that for 40, 50 years of my life, so it's not easy for me to sit there and watch somebody talk about 'I, I, I' when I'm used to 'we, we, we' all the time. That's why I call him a narcissistic president."

Before taking questions, Trump said in his three weeks in office he has: frozen federal hiring; eased bureaucracy with a one regulation in-two out policy; resurrected the Keystone XL and Dakota Access Pipeline projects; started a repeal and replacement of the Affordable Care Act; and begun building a U.S.-Mexico border wall.

"I'm here following through on what I pledged to do, that's all I'm doing," he told reporters.

Reagan said he is willing to overlook Trump's ego, if he is effective on the job. So far, though, he is not impressed.

"If he gets things done, I don't care," Reagan said. "It's about getting things accomplished . . . What bothers me is there seems to be too many things on the table moving forward instead of finding one issue, getting it done, then moving on to the next one, then moving on to the next one.

"Because, if you do it that way, I think you'll get it right. If you don't, you may get it all wrong."
