Radio's Mike Brown to Peter King: 'Shut Up' About Ted Cruz

By    |   Tuesday, 24 Mar 2015 07:04 PM

Michael Brown wants Republicans in general, and one in particular, to refrain from attacking Sen. Ted Cruz now that the conservative first-term Texas firebrand who sometimes riles his own caucus has officially jumped into the 2016 presidential race.

"I have a message for all Republicans: Stop it," Brown, a Denver radio talk show host and former director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, told "MidPoint" host Ed Berliner on Newsmax TV  Tuesday.

"Quit sniping at one another."

Brown singled out Rep. Peter King, the New York Republican who greeted Cruz's campaign launch Monday with scorn on Facebook and a promise on CNN to "jump off a bridge" if Cruz becomes the party's nominee.

"All we need to do is win right now," Brown said of the disparaging remarks from a fellow GOP lawmaker, "so for God's sake, Peter King, shut up."

Brown also gave a thumbs-up to Cruz's announcement speech at Liberty University in Virginia: "In terms of the delivery and just the impact of the speech, it was brilliant."

He said a President Cruz would have to haggle with Congress just like any other White House occupant — Barack Obama excluded, Brown added, "because clearly this president doesn't negotiate or deal."

But candidate Cruz in his first day on the stump generated excitement, said Brown.

"And I'm not sure who I'm going to vote for yet; it's way too early," he said. "At least he was willing to talk in a tone and in a manner about … moving forward … doing some new things and really following the Constitution. That part was great."

Brown also discussed reports of a VA hospital in Aurora, Colo., running $1 billion over budget with no end in sight to construction or spending.

"Sad, but funny, the VA has now turned to the Army Corps of Engineers to come in and be the project manager," he said.

And while the Army Corps of Engineers might be an upgrade over the Department of Veterans Affairs, "it's still a government project manager," said Brown.

"If you want to see what government run health care is like, look at the VA," he said.

Brown said trouble at another federal agency, the Transportation Safety Administration, is proof that TSA agents should never have been allowed to unionize. Union leaders are calling for TSA agents to be armed after last weekend's airport attack in New Orleans by a man wielding a machete.

Brown sided with TSA management, saying of the federal workers at airport checkpoints, "I've watched some of those people — no way do they get a gun."

"If you go to the Denver International Airport, the Denver Police Department already has a presence; they're doing what needs to be done," he said, calling the TSA union push for weapons a power grab.

"I say, stop, don't let them go an inch further," said Brown.
