Rep. Max Miller to Newsmax: Dems 'Petulant Children' Over Omar's Committee Removal

(Newsmax/"Wake Up America")

Rep. Max Miller, R-Ohio, told Newsmax on Saturday that Democrats are acting like "petulant children" following the House voting to remove Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., from her House Foreign Affairs Committee assignment because of several "antisemitic" posts on social media and public comments.

"[Democrats] started this, to be clear," Miller, who was elected to the House in the recent midterm elections and introduced the resolution to remove Omar from the committee, said during "Wake Up America" on Saturday. "For me, this isn't tit for tat. But for them to go up there and opine and have no civility on the House floor and just look directly at us when remarks are to be towards the speaker or the pro tem at the time, it means they're petulant children. They're crying and screaming because they didn't get what they wanted."

Omar, a member of the progressive Democratic "squad," was voted off the committee 218-211 along party lines.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., said he would remove her from the committee after her past posts on social media invoked "antisemitic" tropes against Israel.

Omar apologized "unequivocally" for the remarks highlighting pro-Israel groups "hypnotizing" U.S. government representatives and using money to get what they wanted.

Miller said that he supports Omar's First Amendment right to comment on the things the government is doing "1,000%," but that as a representative on the foreign affairs committee, she is acting as an ambassador for the 330 million Americans she represents.

"If you want to criticize the country, you can criticize whatever country that you would like," he said. But when you start targeting a marginalized group of people with insane rhetoric and also calling Israel an apartheid state and encouraging what I believe is violence in the street to the United States of America and globally, she has no place on that committee. She is the ambassador for the House of Representatives to travel around the world for over 330 million Americans."

He said that criticizing Israel, the closest ally the U.S. has in the Middle East, is "unacceptable."

"She's not even allowed into the state of Israel, which is our greatest and most strategic Democratic ally within the Middle East," he said. "It's unacceptable. She has no place on that committee, and she can serve on whichever committee that she would like, except for that one, and I believe the reasons are more than sound."
