Mary Matalin: GOP Should Use Rudy's Remarks as '16 'Roadmap'

By    |   Wednesday, 25 February 2015 04:13 PM

Rudy Giuliani's proclamation that President Barack Obama doesn't love America should be used as a "roadmap" by the GOP in 2016, Republican political consultant Mary Matalin told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Wednesday.

"Everybody agrees with what he says … sane, thinking, rational people," Matalin said Wednesday on Newsmax TV.

"It was a great roadmap, too. I'm not saying we have to use that vernacular or that passion, but those are the arguments and he's showing people how to do it."

Last week, Giuliani spoke at a meet-and-greet at New York City's "21 Club," for Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, a potential 2016 GOP presidential candidate.

And the former New York City mayor sparked a furor when he said he thinks Obama's policy decisions and public remarks about terrorists shows he "doesn't love you, and he doesn't love me," and most of all, he doesn't think the president "loves America."

Walker was also pulled into the fray when he was asked about Giuliani's remarks and said he didn't know whether the president loved America.

But Matalin — who was an adviser to Vice President Dick Cheney and campaign director for President George W. Bush — said Walker answered correctly.

"[He was] showing people how to deal with the press," she said, adding that there are "two parallel universes" in the United States.

"There's the universe in which right thinking, normal, ordinary, mainstream Americans live and then there's this parallel universe of the media and the establishment."

Matalin said she is unimpressed by Hillary Clinton's courting of women voters as she works toward a possible 2016 presidential candidate.

"This is all about the continuation of identity politics and the presumption that women — it's so patronizing, it's so insulting, it is so retro — [are] going to vote for a woman because she's a woman," she said.

"This is what turned me into a conservative. I was a hippie liberal until … some of us said, a woman needs a man like a fish needs a bite. I'm like, well, I like men …

"[It is] strategic and it's out of the Obama divide and conquer playbook and I don't think it's going to work."
