A conservative lawmaker's stunning move to oust House Speaker John Boehner is not likely to succeed, Rep. Marsha Blackburn tells Newsmax TV.

"I don't know if this is going to go anywhere," Blackburn, a Tennessee Republican, said Wednesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show."

"People's attention right now is on other components. They are very worried about Iran and national security issues."

This week, North Carolina Rep. Mark Meadows — chair of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee — introduced a procedural move to try and unseat Boehner from his powerful post.

Some see the move as a tit-for-tat retaliation after Meadows was briefly stripped of a subcommittee chairmanship for voting against the party on a procedural trade vote, a punishment Boehner supported.

Asked by Steve Malzberg if she personally would support Meadows' procedural move, Blackburn, vice chair of the House Energy Committee, said:

"Even though many of us are dissatisfied with things that the House and the Senate leadership have or have not done and are very frustrated, right now, our focus needs to be on what we are going to do with this Iran deal …

"The proper way to do this is when we get ready to do our elections for a conservative to put themselves in the queue to run for speaker of the House and that is the way to go about addressing this and that's the proper time to go about addressing it.

"Right now we have got to make certain that we pull votes together and that we are united in overriding the veto [of the Iran deal]."
