Mark Morgan to Newsmax: Borders 'More Vulnerable' Than Before 9/11

By    |   Sunday, 28 January 2024 01:53 PM EST

Former acting Customs and Border Patrol Commissioner Mark Morgan, speaking out after Sunday morning's deadly attack on U.S. troops in Jordan, told Newsmax that the U.S. borders, under President Joe Biden's lack of action, are "less secure and more vulnerable now" than before the 9/11 attacks.

"It's why we say border security is synonymous with national security," Morgan, appearing on Newsmax's "Sunday Agenda" with former CBP Chief Ronald Vitiello, commented. "In the past 36 months alone, [CBP] has apprehended over 300 illegal aliens on the FBI's terrorist screening database.

"They've apprehended tens of thousands of aliens that we call special interest aliens that come from countries that we know sponsor harbor facilitate terrorism, including Syria, Yemen, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Lebanon, and Jordan."

He pointed out that the Border Patrol and the Department of Homeland Security, as well as the FBI, have issued intelligence reports that the borders are posing a significant national security threat, including a letter last week from 10 former high-ranking FBI officials.

"We've got to wake up," he said. "It's not if it's going to come to our country. That threat is already here."

Vitiello, meanwhile, insisted that Biden "needs to grow a spine" and act as if the United States is the world's main superpower.

"He's asking for $14 billion," he said. "He wants Congress to give him new authority. He doesn't need any of that. He needs the will and the spine to do what's right. "

He added that the enemies of the United States, including the Houthis, Hamas, Iran, and China are watching the border situation, while the administration "shows nothing but weakness."

Americans are paying heed as well, he said.

"We saw the voters in Iowa, New Hampshire, that's their No 1 issue," said Vitiello. "It's becoming the No. 1 issue across the country because this president is so derelict in his duties."

Meanwhile, when former President Donald Trump was in office, "we had historic lows in illegal migration" because of his policies, said Vitiello.

"I've done this for a really long time, 34 years, in the federal government, working on this problem," he added. "It can be fixed … Donald Trump showed us how to do that. All they've got to do is go back to the policies that work. We are all in great danger."
