Mark Morgan to Newsmax: 'Tsunami' Coming With Title 42 Lift

By    |   Sunday, 23 April 2023 09:11 AM EDT

Title 42 protections at the border are scheduled to end in May, and when that happens, it will "turn the tidal wave of anarchy into a tsunami," former acting Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Mark Morgan said Sunday on Newsmax.

"Anarchy is already upon us," Morgan, a visiting fellow at the Heritage Foundation, said on Newsmax's "Wake Up America." "It's just going to take a crisis that we already have and it's going to make it worse. It's a lose-lose for Americans…but here's who's winning: cartels.

Title 42, which is part of the Public Health Service Act of 1944, became widely known during the COVID-19 pandemic when former President Donald Trump used the restriction to turn away migrants in the name of stopping the spread of the virus.

After several court challenges, the restriction will lift on May 11.

Morgan, also on Sunday, spoke out about the situation in New York City, where Mayor Eric Adams recently said that the sanctuary city "has been destroyed by the migrant crisis."

"New York is one of the most powerful, richest cities probably on the face of the planet, and they're saying this is unsustainable," said Morgan. "And what he [Adams] doesn't do is he doesn't take responsibility, either, for it being one of the most powerful, influential sanctuary cities in this entire country."

If Adams wants to be part of a solution, he should "outlaw" the sanctuary program that is acting as an incentive for illegal migrants to come to his city, he added.

"Throwing more money and more resources at this issue is going to just incentivize more illegal immigration and cause our borders to be less secure," said Morgan. "It's time to call the administration out for their hypocrisy and the worst border security crisis in history."

Meanwhile, Morgan responded to numbers posted on Twitter by Jacki Kotkiewicz, the director of policy research for the GOP, who said 34,680 pounds of fentanyl hav been seized at the southern border, or enough to kill 7.8 billion people, since President Joe Biden took office.

"What is shocking is what we're not seizing because our borders are wide open," said Morgan. "You have millions of illegal aliens flow across our border because of this administration's policies," said Morgan, adding that the Border Patrol's resources are being concentrated on processing and releasing illegal immigrants rather than enforcing the border and stopping drugs from coming across.

"We handed operational control over to the cartels," said Morgan. "Drugs are flowing across, criminals are flowing across, and potential national security threats. This literally is insanity and enough is enough."
