Even with Israel vowing revenge on Iran after Tuesday's missile attack, there is no need for the conflict to become a regional war, according to Malcolm Hoenlein, the CEO emeritus of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, speaking to Newsmax.
"There's only one message that the Iranian dictators understand and that's strength, and that's how terrorists who are essentially bullies will only react when they are stood up against," Hoenlein told Newsmax's "Wake Up America."
Israel does need to take further action, but "nobody wants to see this become a regional war, and it need not be," he stressed.
"We can easily stop the Iranians by the response that we saw initially and the continuing response, eliminating the leaders of the terrorist entities wherever they are located," said Hoenlein.
He also pointed out that Israel's ability to carry out strikes is well-documented, including when it hit the port of Hodeidah in Yemen, which is located the same distance away as Iran's oil fields.
"That message was clear, and I think the Iranian leadership knows it," said Hoenlein. "They cannot declare when this is over, after they shoot almost 180 missiles, and deadly missiles in many cases, at the Israel civilian population."
Meanwhile, the fight is a battle "for democracy and against terrorism," and it is about the United States and Western values, said Hoenlein.
"The fact that we could stand together against Iran, which is the fulcrum of the Ring of Fire with Hamas, Hezbollah, and these other elements, is really significant for the Middle East and for the world," he said.
